
11 Aug Port of Kennewick Marks 30 Years of Consecutive Clean Audits
Kennewick, Wash. – Port of Kennewick’s recent 2024 audits were clean, complete and accurate, with no findings, according to the Washington State Auditor’s Office. These audits mark 30 years of consecutive clean independent audit reports.
The Washington State Auditor’s Office issued notice on Aug. 7, 2025, officially closing audits covering detailed financial statements, policies and procedures related to Port of Kennewick’s 2024 operations.
The audits determined that Port of Kennewick complied with applicable state laws, regulations, State Auditor’s Office and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) oversight, and its own policies and procedures – and that the port provided adequate controls over public resources.
“Having the Washington State Auditor’s Office inspect and review our operations helps assure the public that we are spending their tax dollars properly and operating transparently with exacting standards,” said Nick Kooiker, the port’s chief financial officer/deputy CEO. “Thirty years of clean audits is truly significant, and it demonstrates Port of Kennewick utilizes strict internal controls to safeguard the public’s funds.”

The financial statement and accountability audits covered the port’s financial position and controls, payroll, including paid time off and merit awards, general disbursements including credit cards, bid law compliance, the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA), financial statement compilation and reconciliations.
Financial audits aim to provide reasonable assurance that financial statements are accurate and presented transparently, including disclosures necessary to provide a reasonable understanding of the port’s financial affairs. Accountability audits aim to ensure that operations are conducted in compliance with applicable state laws, regulations and the organization’s policies and procedures.
