
Dignified Disposal of Colors
On Flag Day, June 14, 2025, Glenn M. Sickels Post 34 of Kennewick – Pasco, American Legion, along with Port of Kennewick, City of Kennewick Government, Kennewick High School Junior ROTC, Kennewick Police Department, and Kennewick Fire Department invites the community to bring worn or damaged U.S. flags to Columbia Park for respectful and proper retirement during a special ceremony.

The demonstration ceremony involves a dignified disposal of colors by burning thirteen worn or damaged U.S. flags. The remainder of any worn or damaged flags donated for retirement will be taken offsite for proper disposal.

The event will take place in Columbia Park at the Regional Veterans Memorial. The event is free and open to the public.

The goal of the event is to show and share proper disposal of the American flag in a respectful and dignified manner. The American Legion will be speaking about the importance of, and respect for, the American flag as well as its traditions and customs. Port of Kennewick Commission President, Skip Novakovich, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
